We are updating the local policies in our planning scheme to improve the framework we use to make planning decisions.

The Planning Policy Framework provides municipal directions for land use, built form, housing and assists to intergrate decision making with transport and environmental matters.

The policies are being introduced through Amendment C269.

This update to the Yarra planning scheme ensures our policies reflect the needs of our growing and evolving city. It also presents them in a new format recently introduced by the State Government through the State Government's Smart Planning program to simplify and modernise Victoria’s planning policy and rules.

Amendment C269 updates some of the existing policies and introduces new ones. Some of these changes are simply adapting existing policy to the new format.

Extensive community feedback was used to develop Amendment C269. This was collected through a number of projects, beginning with our Liveable Yarra community panel in 2015. Find out who we talked to and what we heard.

Additionally, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has been consulted and involved through the translation of the planning scheme and the proposed changes.
